Matt suffered a cardiac event on March 30th and never regained consciousness.

Matthew is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth, and beautiful children, MacKenzie Jean and John “Jack” Warren Allen of Eugene, OR. His mother-in-law Patricia Harris of Peoria, IL; sisters-in-laws and their husbands of IL: Margaret (Bill) Schmider, Kathleen (Tom) Hafele, Joan (Shannon) Walden, Michelle (Troy) Adams, and 19 nieces and nephews. Matt’s love for adventure and outdoors flourished: camping, fishing, and hiking. Matt had a passion his whole life for bicycling. Matt was active in Boy Scouts and awarded his Eagle Scout at age 13.

Matt moved to Peoria, IL for his Senior year at Richwoods HS (class of 1983). Matt met Liz (Harris) Allen at the Universalist Unitarian Church. Matthew and Elizabeth were married June 29, 1985 and moved to OR. Matt worked at bicycle repair shops prior to his career in Technology.

Matt discovered a bar-code scanner and became a Systems Engineer. He was a Product Manager for wireless network controllers at Connect, Inc. In 1998, Matt received his Bachelor’s degree from PSU and his Private Pilot’s license. He was a Manager of Technical Consultants and solutions engineering for Psion Teklogix (Motorola). Matt and Liz enjoyed camping, hiking, biking, kayaking, and playing pool.

After many years, they became parents to MacKenzie and Jack. In 2006, they moved to Charlotte, NC where Matt worked at Honeywell as a Senior Product Manager for wireless technologies. Matt took his family camping, hiking and kayaking. He taught his kids how to ride bikes. He demonstrated hard work ethics, adventure, and respect for nature. Matt was a life-long member of the YMCA, enjoyed fitness, cycling and competed in marathons and triathlons.

Matt worked for Harris Corporation, Lynchburg, VA from 2009 to 2017. First as a Systems Engineer for infrastructure communications, then Business Development Manager for mission networks. He enjoyed bicycling with his friends on the Dire Wolf Cycling Team. Matt coached Jack’s soccer and MacKenzie’s triathlon teams. Matt and family are members of the First Unitarian Church.

Matt traveled throughout his professional career and enjoyed flying. We moved back to Eugene OR in 2018 when Matt became a Senior Sales Engineer for Librestream Technologies (Winnipeg, Canada). Matt’s deep and vast grasp of technology was unprecedented.

Matt was handsome with a beautiful smile, athletic, healthy, strong and courageous. Matt’s passing is a reminder to live your life with purpose. Life is precious. Enjoy the beauty that surrounds you. Matt’s determination, strength, bravery, wisdom, and drive were evident in his everyday life. Matt was surrounded by love from his family and friends. We will hold onto you, Dear Matthew, forever in our hearts and souls.

Your loving wife, Liz
