Maribelle Bickel Hendricks of Pleasant Hill, OR passed away on September 12, 2020 at the age of 79. Maribelle was born on December 6, 1940 in Redding, CA to parents Ezekiel Lazarus Hendricks and Mable Maudie (Stites) Hendricks, the middle child of five and their only daughter. She attended school in Hood River, OR; Newport, WA; and Mountain Gate, CA before graduating from Grover Cleveland High School in Portland, OR in 1958. While in high school she was a majorette in the marching band, volunteered as a secretary for Calvary Baptist Church, worked at Montgomery Ward in the Nuts & Candy Dept, and often helped organize youth events and luncheons. Maribelle attended Portland State University with an interest in speech and English Literature. She married George L. Bickel on November 11, 1963 in Las Vegas, NV. They later divorced. Maribelle married Robert L Bickel on December 15, 1967 in San Fernando, CA, and they enjoyed 16 years together. Maribelle worked many clerical and professional secretarial positions in California intermittently from 1960s-1983. Some of those included Seventh Day Adventist Hospital in Simi Valley CA, Dr. Ziegler Psychologist in Los Angeles, Capitol Records through Kelly Girl Services, a correspondent with Governor Pat Brown’s campaign, and Southern California Edison Company. Maribelle retired from McKenzie Willamette Medical Center in 2005 after 20 years working as an Emergency Room Registrar, Admitting Secretary, PBX Operator, and Insurance Verification Specialist. She was a life-long learner and enjoyed reading about anything related to adventures and challenges. She loved all things creative, often making things for friends and family so they knew they were special. She loved to “make a home” and host for those she loved. Her family savored her uniquely delicious cooking and took comfort in her warm, country-style home decorating. An all-night pinochle game with family was among her favorite past times. She was a loyal family member, loving mother, and numerous friends were as family in her heart. Maribelle was a forty-year prayer partner and supporter of Jews for Jesus. Mari is preceded in death by her brother Lawrence Hendricks. She is survived by her daughter Julee (Todd) King of Eugene, OR, son Robert Bickel of Marcola, OR, and daughter Sherri (Steve) Mathias of Chatsworth, CA; her brothers Zeke (Betty) Hendricks of Bend, OR, Richard (Mary Lou) Hendricks of Huntington Beach, CA, and Frank (Donna) Hendricks of Portland, OR; as well as 4 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. A funeral service and burial will be held at Sunset Hills Funeral Home and Cemetery.
